The different types of CBD, made simple!

The different types of CBD, made simple!

The cannabidiol industry is growing but it can be confusing! We utilise the versatility of this all-natural compound, so you can buy CBD in a variety of products. That includes traditional CBD oils, as well as a CBD bath range and topical items, like our own CBD Muscle Balm.

As a potential consumer of CBD, you've likely got some questions—what are the different types of CBD? What's the difference between whole plant CBD and broad spectrum CBD? Why should I consider taking CBD?

why you should take CBD as a woman

Well, if you've got questions, we've got answers. In this guide, we’re going to explain some common phrases you'll see when gathering CBD information. We'll disclose what we mean by whole plant, isolate, full spectrum, and much, much more to do with cannabidiol. Keep reading if you want to be a CBD expert!

What is whole plant CBD?

If you want to understand the difference between whole plant CBD and broad spectrum CBD, we better start with whole plant! Whole plant CBD retains the compounds from the hemp plant within the extract, rather than filtering them. To compare, for products referred to as CBD isolates, it's standard to use pure CBD.

With whole plant CBD, on the other hand, products are made by processing the...whole plant. Whole plant CBD contains different cannabinoids and has a vast range of other things from the plant included—terpenes, flavonoids, oils, waxes. Because of this, the resulting product is relatively thick and can also contain trace amounts of THC, the psychoactive compound in cannabis.

What is full spectrum CBD?

Again, in comparison to single-molecule CBD, full spectrum CBD couldn't be more different!

Its chemical makeup comprises of hundreds of cannabinoids stemming from the plant.

Often, full spectrum CBD contains a small level of THC, the psychoactive compound of the marijuana plant. THC levels can vary, but CBD products, in general, can only legally have up to 0.2% THC—a number too low to affect most.

That's why full spectrum CBD often gets sold in places where there are looser laws on THC or where THC is legal for medical or recreational use. Keep in mind, however, that CBD itself doesn't get you high. Even increasing your CBD dosage won't get you high, either.

But what's the difference between full spectrum CBD and whole plant CBD? They sound relatively similar, right?

That's because they are. The primary difference between the two is that full spectrum doesn't have the waxes and oils that whole plant does. That makes it a little smoother and easier to ingest, particularly if you’re not a fan of the hempy taste.

What is broad spectrum CBD?

We've covered full spectrum and whole plant, and now you're probably wondering—what the heck is broad spectrum? After all, we did tell you that we’d tell you the difference between whole plant CBD and broad spectrum CBD at the start of all this!

Well, broad spectrum cannabidiol is reasonably comparable to those two but with one big difference. Whole plant and full spectrum include a wide range of cannabinoids, and broad spectrum does as well, with the exception that broad spectrum CBD contains 0% THC.

What is CBD isolate?

Last but definitely not the least, we have CBD isolate. Like we mentioned earlier, CBD isolate contains single-molecule CBD derived from the hemp plant. It’s all natural and is pure CBD so that you get exactly what you're looking for, as well as 0% THC!

This pure CBD product can be sold as both a solid or powder after it's been extracted from the plant, free from any other molecules. This process removes any additional cannabinoids, including THC, and leaves behind a pure form of CBD, which is in crystal form.

From here, manufacturers can grind the crystal down into an ingestible form such as CBD oil, and gives you less of that 'hempy' taste that is commonly found in other broad spectrum products.

How does CBD work in the body?

Want to hear something crazy? Our body already has natural cannabinoid receptors. We make our own cannabinoids right within our bodies, which influences several of our bodily functions. Rather than altering these already-present receptors, CBD instead influences them to continue their natural processes.

This receptor activation is the only way in which CBD interacts with our body, which is why CBD is seen as safe and well tolerated by the World Health Organization. The results vary from person to person, based on the cannabinoids within us and the product, dosage, and type of CBD being ingested.

Just remember: CBD doesn't alter anything chemically within your body so much as it enjoys the ride!

How is CBD extracted?

You should have a pretty good understanding of CBD's many forms now, but how exactly is CBD extracted from the plant? Further, how is some CBD broad spectrum while another is CBD isolate?

The truth is, there are various extraction methods out there, some healthier and more natural than others. One of the best methods of extraction is using CO2, which is the one we at BeYou use. It's safe and efficient, two primary considerations when extracting cannabidiol.

To do this, manufacturers set the temperature and pressure of CO2 just right so that it has the properties of both gas and liquid. As CO2 gets passed over the plant, it acts as a solvent, drawing out key compounds without denaturing the plant itself. What's leftover is a solution, which then gets passed through a separator.

The separation method derives a variety of CBD compounds, depending on the intended result, without taking away from or altering the natural qualities of the plant.

Where to find CBD products for you

So, now that you've learned a bit more about the various forms of CBD, you may be curious where to buy CBD products that are suited to your wants and needs.

Thankfully, with the wealth of knowledge continuing to come out about CBD, and its increasing mainstream acceptance, CBD products can be found in many places, including right here! Unfortunately, that doesn't always mean it's authentic or the sellers are transparent.

Therefore, it's essential to only buy from suppliers that are organic, all-natural, and honest. At BeYou, we provide batch testing down to the individual product. Type in the batch number of any of your products, and you'll see a full breakdown of the CBD oil or CBD balm in your hand with exactly what’s in it. Your safety is important to us.

What if you’ve already been buying CBD somewhere else? Well, you can see if your supplier has batch testing results too. Any transparent and honest company will provide this information to you—those that don't are waving red flags, and you should move on. This 100% safe-and-tested guarantee is essential.

Manufacturer aside, are CBD products safe? According to the World Health Organisation, CBD is not only safe but is also well-tolerated. To date, there has not been recreational use of CBD products, as well as no public health-related problems associated with using CBD. That’s why we believe in CBD.
